Round baler run off an aux. motor

Ive seen the old square balers run off their own motors; but don't have much exposure to the intricates of round balers, as we have ours rolled by a neighbor. Seems like the twine is wrapped on his bales using a hydraulic cylinder. I can make it work on paper, but KNOW there must be more to it.
Now, if I had a rig like this behind my 720 d'sel (one hyd remote) and kept the bale size to common sence standards, reckon it would work or am I dreaming?

My JD 510 round baler has hydraulic tie, but came with a 2 to 4 hydraulic splitter so it only needs one remote - pull the rope once, and you can open or close the back gate, pull the rope again, and you can tie. I run it with an Oliver 1600 (60 hp), which I thought was close to a 720, horse-power wise.

you can get a dual remote hydraulic for a 720 for $400 - $600 and change yours then sell single control to get back part of the money and not mess around with another motor.

I saw a picture once of the amish (spelling??) pulling a round baler with two horses. They had a motor cart hooked up inbetween the horses and the baler. You could use a baler with a manual or electric tie and elimate one set of hydrualics.

lots of guys bale with Farmall MD so the 720 should do fine. just find a baler with electric bale wrapper.

The Claas Rollant 62 we had was fitted with an electric twine wrapper.It never missed a beat.

I think the issue is weight, at least as much as hp. You have a big heavy baler, with a big heavy _spinning_ ble in it. If the tractor can't run the baler, it won't have enough weight to control the load either.

There are round balers out there that run on 40-45 hp tractors. Don't know what your tractor is rated at?

You _need_ one hyd remote to run the rear gate of a round baler. On different machines, the twine arm can be run manually with a srtring you pull from the seat, a second hyd control (you'd have to add a multiplier or something) or a 12v electric arm. The twine just wraps around, very simple.

I think the biggest problem would be the risk of fire, with round balers you generally have a lot more problems with dust and with residue and buildup than with a small square baler. You'd have to be almost constantly cleaning everything to keep the buildup on the motor from catching fire.

THANKS for the replys and pertinent information. It really got me to thinking.. Now there is a slice that I didn't think about having to eat. Fire. Don't need no fires for sure I suppose the 720 would spin the baler off the PTO, if it was a small enough bailer. The electric tyer would fix the need for another hydraulic, and I reckon the hydros would lift the door on the baler fine enough. The horsepower on mine is realisticly about the 50 range, all things considered, so I reckon I just need to get ahold of the right round baler. Yall are a wealth of knowledge thanks so much.

I'd look for a 4x4 baler. But you could get a 4x6 baler, & make 4x4 bales with it. If you get a bigger tractor, you can then jump up to 6' diameter.

Most brands will make a baler of the size that would work for you. Depends on how old (cheap) or new you want to go. Electric is on the somewhat newer ones, and often combines a monitor which helps you make good well-formed bales. For that matter, do you wan a chain, fixed-chamber, or belt baler? :)

Soldier Tom all you need is a new holland 848 round baler with electric tie I think the min. hp required is 40. makes a 4x5 bale.been using one for 10 years and bale about 150 acres a year. a good baler.
