I have a 461 Haybine that I got in a package deal. It needs a new sickle, guards, and some rusty spots patched on it. Everything seems to run fine on it. My question is, is it worth putting the money in it. Are parts still available for it, such as gear box parts. I don't want to put money in it if I can't repair it later. Thanks in advance.

Brad, Parts should still be available. NH made the best haybine of anybody. I don't think the 461 had a floating cutter head like the 469 and newer. I would still buy one over a different haybine!! Best of luck

Be careful. Some parts are discontinued and here in south eastern Pa, they are worth nothing. Steve

Steve,

Assuming the gearbox and wobble box are OK, is there anything other than rolls that would be a problem on this machine. You are right, they are worth nothing, as I bought one for $25 last year and it seemed to cut OK, but we didn't run it hard at all, because hay was already done. The rolls are like brand new, which is why I bought it, but I never ran one this old. Got the manuals and operator guides, we are planning to tear down and rebuild starting next month. Anything we should look for before investing lots of $? Any advice greatly appreciated. Glenn (formerly of New Holland, worked in the White House 'til 1985)
