I'm looking to buy a Vermeer R-21 twin rake at an upcoming auction. Has anyone had any problems, or know of any weaknesses of these machines.
Also any insight to the value would also be appreciated.

The rakes give very little problems, Vermeer has had almost the same design for over 20 years now. They found something good and stuck with it. Make sure your tractor has enough hyrdualic flow to handle the rake. Capacity so the fuild will not heat up and gpm. If you get it you will like it.

These rakes only take 6-8 GPM. Often the heating problem is because a tractor is pumping 15-20 GPM which means that 9-14 GPM are being bypassed causing excess heat. A good operator will know to turn the flow rate down.

The first R-21 rakes were MFG in the mid-1970's.
All the parts are still available. On any piece of equipment this old you have to look at the condition very carefully. The R-23 took the place of the R-21B.
