Ideas on custom furrow maker?

Greetings!I would like to get some ideas from some of you implement fabricators on a way to open two furrows in prepared soil for bulb planting. I have a '51 Massey-Harris 44 which does have a 3 point, and I've been told that mounting two discs at about a 45 degree angle off of something called a "tool bar" should be what I need to open a furrow in a prepared bed. I figured that four discs, (2 sets of 2), would work if a guy wanted two furrows spaced the desired distance apart between the rear wheels. Also, do you think that the same arrangement, only with the discs in a reversed direction, could be used to "close" the same furrows after the bulbs were dropped into place? I am very new to this and am trying to start a small-time daffodil propagation business and any suggestions from you more experienced folks would be much appreciated. I wonder if you are looking for a transplanter? I live in corn/soybean country, so I couldn't say. But I'm close enough to the christmas tree farms to know that something like a tree planter would do it.

If you would go look at a corn planter, you want _that_ on a magnified scale. You could probably rework one into what you want. The parrallel linkages & depth control would be a big bonus over your good but simple 4 blades on a toolbar (toolbar = a square bar on a 3pt frame to bolt on whatever you want to pull in the ground). It would be better to have the flex and/or spring loading to allow for rocks & uneven ground.

What you want to do is not that terribly difficult, but based on your words, you need lots of pictures or someone else to make it; jut words would be very difficult to describe things so it makes sense to you. :)

Adding to that perhaps you should consider using existing farm equipment. When I plant spuds I use my front mounted cultivators dropped down and then to close I come back along with disks as you described to close it up.

You may want to look for an old Dearborn 3pth cultvator or a 3pth York rake (rock rake) as it has depth wheels. Either of those could be a baseline that you can adapt for your needs.

Your idea sounds good to me. You might want some sort of gauge shoes or wheels on the toolbar though so that you can maintain a constant depth.
