I have been looking for some grass hay to cut this summer and just talked to a neighbor that knows where some is at. He would cut and bale it, but doesn't have enough time to do it all. He has a swather we would use and then we would use both our balers to bale. I would probably end up doing a little over half of the work. We would each half our share ourself. The question is what would you conside an even split since we will be using his swather and baler and I'll be putting in most of the labor plus my baler.

Thanks,
Bob G

Thanks Guys.

I was leaning towards 50/50, There is about 40 acres of dryland grass, we are in a 20 inch rainfall area of eastern Washington state. The pasture I cut on my place (10 acres) yields right at 1 ton/acre. I was starting to worry that I was going to have to buy hay next year until my neighbor found this.

Thanks again.

My two cents worth, I use to farm with a buddy of mine, ours was about the same situation as yours. He had the tractor with swather, we both had tractor and baler. I would run his tractor and swather and we both would bale, I would do most fo the irrigation, (about 99%). All fertilizer was 50-50. We would split the income 50-50.

Back in the 1940's we used to figure a man was worth the equipment time So if you brought your tractor and waggon, it was worth the time of two men. I would saw if he is willing, then split it 50-50 youi put in the extra time and he provides the extra equipment

I'd probably go that route too. It's reasonable and avoids a pi$$ing contest with a buddy over a pile of dry grass.
