What does the phrase "No ads please" at the top of each of the YTMag forums mean? It seems to be ignored quite a bit these days.

I agree about the ads, and for the ones who say "no one looks at the ads" I posted a for sale ad in the photo section last night at 10:00 PM and before 9:00 am this morning it was sold. So if it is a serious buyer, and a item that is wanted people will buy it. Also I for one check the photo ads at least 2-3 times a week. If there is a item I want I buy other wise I just look. By the way I also deleted the ad after the sale.

Stan: Did you learn anything? Kim may be should deal with these add addicts much the same as she does with the foul language guys. Shouldn't be too hard to follow the rules. If I'm looking for something or have something I want to part with I go to the classifieds, photo classifieds or auction. Never see any discussion over there. Now if I want a good evening of discussion, I don't want to be mulling through a bunch of classifieds.

My advice to Kim enforce your rules, you my find mt pen hand operates a bit better.

Forgive them Stan! They saw one just like theirs on ebay for $8000 and it must be worth that. So they try the ads....no response. They try ebay....no bids. They have to try the forums 'cause they already spent the dough! As long as it doesn't get too crazy, maybe we should just lighten up and laugh it off.

I think Kim has relaxed the rules some. Letting people post some of their ebay stuff even in the forums. I personaly think somebodies doing me a favor if they post it in a forum I frequent so I get first chance as opposed to the ads. Dealers pay for their ads. I think if dealers post in the forums for fee avoidance thats probably not the best ideal on their part. If somebody says "how much is this worth?" they're selling and if they say "where can I get this?" they're buying, both ads. I dont think its abused and if its cracked down then you'll be afaid to ask what time it is. i guess what bugs me is ten wantnabe moderators chasing somebody around.

Have you tried "site suggestions and feed back"? I am sure if this was brought to Kim's attention and it is in violation of her rules and guidlines she would handle the matter in the proper manner.

While that's a good idea, the hard-core advertisers have leared to post their ads at night or weekends, when Kim is less likely to get to them. She removes a dozen or more a day as it is - the problem is not Kim, it is selfish people.

A problem our society is having difficulties with all over.

This topic was put up for discussion last month over on the other board, it quickly became the most hotly discussed issue to date. The end result? several people with a lot to offer hesitate jump in on a topic, people who make and sell things don't offer up solutions. And still nobody looks at the classifieds. I proved that this past week by following protocol and putting an item in the classifieds on the other board and posting a heads up on that discussion board.
First thing that happened? Somebody posted on the discussion board asking all the questions that were spelled out in the classified ad! The only thing I didn't do was post a picture. I was quite discouraged so I stripped and polished the piece and sent it to another customer. My take on this is I don't post anything that could be construed as self promotion, or attempting to profit from a discussion board, but then again I avoid offering any advice that may be helpful or informative due to the risk of being misconstrued. After all rules is rules. One solution offered up was "if you see a post that says For Sale and don't want to look at it, don't click on it".

Steve: The guy who saw your heads up, being too lazy to read the classifieds anyway, very likely was not a serious buyer. Classifieds can be funny, you run them for awhile, no one responds, drop it awhile, then re advertize. all of a sudden it will take off. Other items will take off right at start. Its all timing, and luck. I remember a guy in my home town had a truck for sale for two years. The very first guy that looked at it, bought it two years later for a $1,000. more money.

If these discussion pages turn into free-for-all sales places, you will _quickly_ lose your user base here - and then no one will see your self-promotion anyhow. :) I mean that in a nice way....

For an example, www.farms.com was a very, very active Canadian web site, lots of goat people, lots of farm issues & discussion. then they revamped it, had 2 weeks of down time, renamed it a 'chat' area (it's a forum, not chat....) and didn't moderate it.

Go there. Look at the quality of people & discussion there. Go ahead & paste all the ads you want there, it won't matter....

I value this resource of ytmag, and hope that people don't want to ruin it.

I have to agree with Paul completly. Our local Internet Provider use to have a "For Sale" board and a "Chat Room". The "Chat Room" was soon over run and they started using the For Sale area. It was a mess. It wasn't long untill the whole thing was shut down. We lost a good place to sell things locally because some people can't tell the difference between a For Sale and a Chat forum.

Pretty good little auction right here at YT. Heck of a lot easier than mulling through ebay. The more is is used the better it will get.

Post it on eBay and let people fight over it! You'll be amazed at what people will pay for something that seems worthless to normal people. The heck with the person that could really use the part and make a private deal, if they can read a post they can go on eBay and fight just like the rest

I have a question on a foggy area for me. If you need a odd part and have tried the classifieds here and elsewhere is it okay to ask other people on the forum if they know where to find one. I'm not trying to get smart, but I can see where it could seem like a want add instead of a request for information

There have been a _whole_ lot of items here that are just total for sale ads here the past 2 months. Gets tiresome. Kim removes them when alerted about them, so you might not see many at one time, but it is a real issue.

I think it is pretty obvious seeing someone asking for help, or looking to make a fast buck in an inappopriate place.....

No argument there - that is an exchange of information, which is what these forums are all about.
