I have done a little reading in the archives, but am not sure of the answer and have a few questions.

Firstly, has anyone used a Dearborn sickle bar mower (model 14-16)? What are your impressions of it and how does it compare with a Ford 501?

I'm not sure from reading the archives, but will one of these things only fit an 8N?

I have a Massey Ferguson tractor (MF50) and it has a catagory 1, 3 pt hitch. My question is will one of these mowers fit it and if not, what would one have to do to make it work?

Are parts and manuals still available? When would this mower have been produced?

Thanks in advance,
Bill

I have one of those Dearborn mowers that I got for free a couple of years ago. Was going to put it on my 2N. It was all taken apart when I got it and I just never got around to getting it back together.
If you were any where close to Minneapolis and needed one for parts I'd let it go for the same price I paid for it. I'm holding out for a 501.

It is a hard mower to attach and may not work on a MF50, you need the special RH rear axle bracket, LH stabilizer bracket, a bracket below the top link and extensions to lower the 3 point arms, these are usually left on the tractor it was mounted on and the next owner is stuck, it was made in the mid 50's, New Holland still sells popular parts, maybe an old Ford dealer near you has a manual or check Ebay.

Bill, I have a Dearborn 14-1 mower and a 1948 8N. The mower came with the tractor from the original owner. The bigest difference between the 501 and the Dearborn is that the 501 is easier to put on and off because it is built on a frame. The Dearborn is much harder because the mount system is more complex. The Dearborn requires two mounting brackets that bolt to the axle tubes so if you find one make sure you get the brackets.I am not sure if the brackets will work on a MF-50 but, they attach to the bolts that hold the fender on the axle tube. Parts are still available. All of the blade sections, rock guards, hold downs and common wear parts are available at TSC for both mowers.

Hope this Helps.

Should work on a 50 low clearance. Cousin had one that he put on a 135 using the brackets that came with the mower. Had to change the pto coupler to 1-3/8" for the 135, though.
