I have a question on making an offer on a NH 315 baler. I am not sure what year. It has a preservative adder on top to add the preservative as you are making hay. Also has an electric control to adjust the tightening from your tractor cab. Not sure if that helps you. It is kept out of the weather. The guy won't give a price at all just wants me to make a decent offer. I don't want to insult him so I could use a little help with the offer price.

Based on my experiance with a 315 baler, I run screaming away from it. We've had nothing but headaches with ours. I think our neighbor has baled more of our acres than we have. Dad finally broke down and bought a 338 deere last year. Seems like a "moderately" better machine.

Get a 273 if you want a nice, affordable, reliable machine that doesn't need to do a lot of acres a year.

Joe, please don't be offended, but I rarely get involved in other folks buying and selling. Whatever I wouls say would probably make one or the other happy and of course the other would be mad enough to shoot me. I will say this, the 315 baler came out around 1976, so you are looking at a 25 year old baler. Steve

Joe, there is nothing wrong with a 315 baler or a 316 for that matter as I have both and work them hard every year. Down time is limited on both. They both bale about the same number of bales each year and that runs into 6-8000 ea. The added preservative equipment is quite expensive and iff your not going to use it will make the price your man wants higher. The price for this baler in good condition w/o the preservative equipment should be 3-4000 dollars but there are alot of variables. Check it out carefully & good luck.....

Joe, you might want to rethink buying as the 315
was not NH's best efforts. You would be better off
looking for a 311 or 316. They will have far fewer
problems.

If he used a lot of propionic acid, look for corrosion it may have caused. Personally, I refuse to deal with folks who won't put a value on their own goods. (Unless it is something I REALLY want/need) If he can't set a price, don't worry about embarassing yourself or insulting him. You can't be expected to read minds.
