I'm gonna be workin on a 310 soon and i'm wondering if it is possible to put 273 gears in the gear box to slow the plunger speed down or if it would be too much of a project. Thanks for your help.

Why not just slow down the PTO speed and maybe grab another gear? Nothing on the 310 runs off the input (pinion) shaft except if it has a thrower. You can max out the belt thrower variable speed adjustment and/or alter the spacers on the split sheaves on the 90 degree belt to maintain thrower speed. If it has a 75 pan kicker it should do fine at less than 540 input speed. I can think of better things to do than swap out a perfectly good baler gearbox.

Operating at less than 540 pto rpm is what I've done with the 310 I have. Baler & belt thrower both work fine and even my Kubota 5700 has plenty of power to run the system at 80-90% of "normal" pto operation.

Yes, that will work. But why not switch complete gearboxes? That would be easier. Steve
