Hello all, I'm thinking about buying an older baler to take in a few acres of hay. I live in Connecticut and was thinking about looking in Pennsylvania as they are much more plentiful and cheaper too. How do you move a baler in a situation like this? What size trailer? Thanks

When they brought my JD14T baler on a truck from VT, about 100 miles, they had a little wheel assembly that bolted/clamped to the baler frame underneath. The 14T small wheel is on the outside of the frame, too wide for a truck bed. The 24T wheel is moved under the frame, but I never tried to load it on a truck. HTH

I have used a tagalong trailer to haul a baler.
Load the baler on the flywheel side down using
blockingto keep the flywheel off the floor and remove the tire on that side.Thats how i use to haul them when i hauled for John Deere to the dealers. stumpy

Check out all tires, maybe put on some old but good car tires, check the hubs/bearings, grease & go. If the wheel assemblies are in good shape, it will stand up to a long road trip. I have a magnetic set of trailer lights that I use on hay wagons, the haybine, baler, etc. They work great, just be sure to stick them on top, not on the side, or you'll lose them on the 1st bump. I pull just about anything with 2 wheels on my farm at 55+, some I'll trust to pull 65+

It should be noted that (New Holland's) "recommended transport speed" for balers is 20 mph! Even a compact pickup can easily get them up to 50+ but the problem is stopping; there are no brakes on that towed implement. Think about what will happen if you have to react to some situation by hitting the brakes while towing a baler at 50 mph.

If you buy now, it seems like you would have enough time to find a hauler going your way before haying season.

Um... Stay where you are Donovan. I would look for a rollback type truck. Connecticut is quite a bit up the road from Pennsyltucky.
