I have a Ford 600 (1956 I think). I have a Marina/Housekeeping resort. The tractor is used mainly for moving boats in and out of storage and road maintainance. Once in a while I find the need to move a car. I thought maybe something could be made for the 3 point hitch to do that. I was thinking maybe something like the lift on the old style tow trucks. Has anyone done this before and how is it done.

Several years ago I made a cheap tow dolly to move disabled cars and trailers around and it has worked well for me. I took about a 7' length of steel I beam laid on the side and welded an old wider trailer axle to the bottom near the rear flange. Then welded a long tougue to the front of the beam and added braces. I made the tongue long so I could use it to also load and tow trailers that had wheel, bearing, or axle prolbems. I used all used parts so cost was minimal.
Ask if you have questions.

Had a lift made for the 3 point on my NAA to move VW bugs but they are light. Your 600 will have weight problems with a lot of cars. How about a 2 wheel dolley ( like the motor home people use to tow their cars behind their motor homes) and an electric wench

Dennis, I have used larger JD tractors (4440) to tow pickup trucks and didn't do too bad. The #1 problem you will find with cars is that the front and rear bumpers are nothing but plastic, and easily damaged. Thats why today almost everything is towed with a wheel lift or put on a rollback. A wheel lift would be possible with your three point, but you will be quite a distance back from the tractor. Once you pick the car up you may never have the front wheels of your Ford touch the ground. Perhaps renting a tow dolly like the ones pulled behind motorhomes with just 2 tires would work better. oleblu
