I've been following your reply's about repairing wobble boxs on the NH haybine's. I'm about to tear open the one on my NH 469 just wondering if any special tools are needed? I've got bearing puller's and a press, am I going to need anything else other then common sense.

I have heard more bad stories about rebuilding 489 boxes. Mine went out and I replaced it with new. My machine was in good shape and nothing is worse than repairs in the middle of hay season. Could cost you more in lost time. I certainly would not reccomend rebuild on 489.

No Matthew, you said it better than I could have. No special tools and common sense are the rule for this job. It's the 489 box that I frown on most guys trying to do on their own. Yes, I have done many of them over the years. You should not need a manual. Just watch how you took it apart and reinstall it in reverse. Have fun, Steve

Have you ever rebuilt a wobble box your self? If so, I would like to know any tricks you might of used. I've got cutting torches to heat what's needed.

Yes, I've done a few. They are not too bad. I'll give you a brief run down and my email is unmasked if you have specifics you want to email me off list.

Hardes part for me on most of them is wrestling the beast out and back in. Lay everything out nice and neat s you take it out. Use the right tools. And most of all dont beat on a casting directly (trust me on that one). Getting the 'arm' off is the biggest challenge. For that, lots of heat and a big hammer are required.
