What's your opinion of these balers? How do they compare as far as capacity. I'm lookin for one without a thrower so that isn't an issue. Are these balers pretty reliable? Do they make nice bales? Any other comments would be great.

I handled bales behind 273 New Holland when kid and we always called those the banana balers. I ran a Deere 327 for about 10 seasons and loved it. Any baler that has the packer fork will simply give you more uniform bales with less hassle. Between those two models it is 327 period. This baler is still going sold last season. He now has two of them and loves them. I just needed more capacity as I bale behind combines with 25 and 30 ft heads. Rick

I guess that I can give as good an opinion as anyone. I have BOTH of those balers. I had the Deere for about 5 years, and bought the New Holland this past year, as a "back-up" baler. We do a lot of straw. I haven't baled much with the New Holland yet, but it did a very good job on the little hay I did bale. The Deere is a VERY good baler. As good as any baler ever made, in my opinion. You will have a bit more capacity with the Deere. You won't go wrong with either one, provided they are in good shape. JMHO. John

Deere balers make good, solid bales. Capacity wise, I think these two would be similar. I do like the auger feed system on the Deere's better though. I had a NH 276 once and had to repair that spring loaded finger feed system after a wreck. Lots of dollars!

I can't tell you about the JD, but I've got a NH 273, and I've been very happy with it.

Pretty sure the 327 would be newer. They are both good balers. Parts would be no problem for either one.

I bought a NH 273 about 5 years ago. I bought it at an auction--brought it home cleaned it up. I found that the knotters were rusted and when I tried to bale caused me some problems. I couldn't clean them good enough so I replaced them. Haven't had any problems with the baler since--does a great job baling!
