Appreciate the expertise and willingness to help on this site. Recently purchased a NH 275 Baler for 8-10 acres. Would like any feedback on this unit or anything I need to be aware of. Also have JD 1209 Mo/Co I could buy. Has been in use on 30 acres. Looks ok but would again like input and suggestions on worth. Thanks in advance!

JG,
Just wanted to throw in a few cents worth here. I am a custom hay baling operator here in north central Texas. For the cutter question, I can't really say anything about a 1209 but I have a 1380 14' cut hydroswing and a 2280 self proppelled John Deere and they cut like nobodys business. I had heard that Deere cutters were no match for New Holland, well someone forgot too tell these two about it. They cut great. Now parts pricing that was mentioned on another reply, Deere parts are kinda steep. I have a 469 New Holland as well so I've bought parts for both, red machines should be a little cheaper too maintain. I'm kinda leaning towards all green machines these days. Same advice here, check for play in the wobble box, roller condition, also check for cracks around the wobble box mouning area, and the cutter bar. Also condiion of tires, chains adn sheet metal as all those are high priced as well. As far as the baler goes, I had a 275 for a short period of time, a wire tie machine and I baled for one season with it. I never really got a peacefull time to really learn the machine as I had a wife at that time who was driving me like a team of mules. Glad I am divorced from, yea I'll say it, the BITCH!!!!(Sorry Kim)
Anyhow, new holland does make good machines as well. I would like to find another square baler as well. I have a 346 Deere wire tie now adn would like to have a twine baler too. I am also hoping to add on another 2280 this year so I can mow with 2 self proppelled cutters, that will look so cool!!!
Good luck

The 275 baler was a pretty good baler. For small acrage, you should be very happy with it. Steve

I have a JD 1209 moco which is a good machine. A quality JD 1209 was much cheaper than a well worn NH 489 and is easier to work on. To me it seems JD parts supply is better, not as expensive, most parts in stock, and if not they can usually have them by 7 am the next morning. Look at the condition of the rolls as the 1209 isn't worth enough to warrant roll replacement. Also look at the cutter bar. I'm in a rocky area where bolt on sickle sections are a must. It cost about $500 to change knife and hold downs. Mine has the stub guards which when in adjustment cut very well but it makes servicing the knife more difficult. Check for play in the wobble box as excessive slack will break the knife head. After breaking a knife head I had my wobble box checked and it was fine. Problem turned out to be a cracked rubber disk drive inside the upper drive pulley. 1209 will also make more noise than NH but that's normal. If I could change anything about it I'd like a 5 bar reel which would allow faster ground speed. The newer 1219 has this and most come with the hydraulic tonque swing.

new holland makes a very good baler..if memory serves me correctly..... ..... ..new holland 479 haybine uses rubber covered rollers vs. all metal rollers on the john deere but....the jd has a different kind of hitch so you can make 90 degree turns and the pto doesn't shake and beat as much..oldguy

For turning a 90 and drive line damage, can't beat the Vicon system. Drive line stays straight at all times. Belt drive from the front to the back, gear box fastened to the pivot arm on the hitch. It's draft arm hitched so it stay straight at all times.

Got the K321 cheap, used one season so far, but has done more than twice the job the old NH 469 or Hestton PT 10 could ever think of doing.

Only improvement would be a swing hitch, but I'm not shelling out those kind of $$ for 15 acres.

1209 has a rubber covered roller as well. Red moco's are better, model for model, than JD's. Nothing wrong with the JD in particular, but NH or others were a bit ahead....
