I am to understand that Vermeer made some round balers for Massey Ferguson. Would anyone know which MF models were Vermeer, their respective model numbers, bale size and hp requirements. What time period were these made? Were these closed or open throat balers? How reliable were they and how were they as far as ease of maintainence? Lastly what is your opinion of the baler, are parts still available and what can one expect to pay for one of these?

Thanks in advance & HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

I have a 1440 bought it in 82. Been a very dependable machine. Did custom work with it for 9 years. Still has same belts. Had to repack hyd. cylinders. Only thing I would change is pickup, doesn't like rough ground. Have seen some go very cheap at auctions $2000. If you are looking at one be sure to start up and run and be sure belts are running in line.

A square twine box 1440 is worth more than a round twine box MF1440. The square twine box is newer and has heavier drives and a better bearing system in the pickup.

The MF450 is a closed throat baler and the same as a Vermeer 504C baler. THe MF1440 is a 504G and is likely to be the most sold baler or the Red Vermeer balers. The 504G(Super G) needs 40 HP and bere produced new from 1980-86.
