I have a 2 bottom 16 IH plow from God knows when. It has a steel wheel and a pneumatic wheel/tire on it. It is a "trip" type plow I think-some sort of mechanism to raise and lower the plow via a mechanism at the inside of the hub.

Are these easy to work on? currently it drops then pops up repeatedly.

Thanks.

Hi Bill in Maple Plain, the guys are correct, a little "dog" floats inside the hub which is notched, when too much dirt oor rust gets in there it doesn't want to work right, but I was thinking too there is a little spring which holds the "dog " in place and I have seen them either break or come off at one end , that will need to be checked. Most of Mc Cormick Deering plows and field cultivators worked that way...check the spring...Mike in Exeter Ontario

Sounds like broken trip dog return spring. Plus a good cleaning and lube will help a lot. It ain't rocket science but take your time and study how it works and you can do it.

Bill: Earl is right, these are not complicated, they are also not dirt or rust proof. They just require an ample supply of grease to keep the rust and dirt out.

Sounds like you need to take the trip side wheel apart and clean it out and grease it back up, sounds like it is dirty or rusted up in there. Just make sure that everthing is moving, and not rusted stuck.
