Implement Painting Recommendations

What kind of paint do you use? The real JD stuff is right expensive is there an alternative you would recommend? Do you brush paint, spray with cans or spray with a gun? I had thought of cleaning the surfaces to the extent I can (and can reach) and using rust-o-leum rusty metal primer followed by implememt green (yellow on the wheels!) in a spray can.

Also, the decals on this baler are in good shape, just faded. I'd like to mask them so as not to cover them with the new paint. How would you recommend I do this? I'm afraid that if I simply use a masking tape, I will pull off the lettering or damage it when removing the tape.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Cant help you on the decales, but I have painted a baler. I used the cheap stuff fron Fleet Farm.
I purchased 1 gal of NH red and about 6 or 7 spray cans of NH yellow. Also a gallon of red oxide primer. Primmer is a must with this paint as it does not stick worth a darn to old paint or bare metal.
For spraying I use the cheap sprayers you can get at Harbor Freight for like $12. I use them 2 or 3 times then throw them out. I hate cleaning spray guns.
