6.00-16 tires

We've got a couple of old carts and trailers that have 6.00-16 tires on them that need replaced. All these tires are light truck type that Dad got someplace years ago. It's not really worth it to buy new implement tires to put on these old carts. So where does a guy find an inexpensive tire that would work? Thought of using the space-saver spare type tire, but they are quite small and narrow.Any ideas?

call around some tire shops and see if they have used or recap tires similar in size to a 6.00-16. Even if its a little narrower or wider it'll work.

Dave, the biggest size truck temporary spare in a 16 inch works pretty good. Not EXTREMELY durable though. Mguy.

Have had the same trouble finding good used tires. Needed some for an eversman leveler a couple years ago. Got some from a local tire dealer who got them from a guy who restores old cars, puts new tires on once in a while. They were 650 X16 but worked fine. Also got some from a tractor show a few years back. My local tire dealers usually don't have any decent 600 X16, guys wear them out before getting new.

Dave , lots of newer cars are using 16 inch tires, if the carts aren't being loaded heavy you can find used or throw away 16"tires that would likely do. I found a couple of 16" light truck tires for one of my hay wagons..worked well, have a wider profile though, a p205 60 16 or p215 65 16 would work well on the older narrower rims. We often have 16" throw aways at the shop , any tire place would likely be glad to give you a set of 16's just to get rid of them..... ...Mike in Exeter Ontario

Thanks for the ideas! A fellow told me today that he has used 16" motorcycle tires in place of the old type.I wouldn't think a bike tire would have much of a load rating.

Had the same problem with an old farm wagon we have on the farm . I used a set of used 3/4 ton truck tires, which were marked 7.50x16.
I even used the old 6x16 tubes with no problem, yet.I think these were in use in the eighties on these trucks, not sure what they use now. My 1/2 ton GMC (2003) uses 16 inch so I'm hoping they will work when i wear them out, as I have a few of those oldtimers around needing tires.

One of the carts is made from the back half of a "51 chevy pickup. So having 6 lug wheels I think that Datsun trucks had same bolt pattern on a 14" rim.Have to do some research on that.

the wheels 15" from Chevy - GMC trucks fit and they are also the same wheels that some trailer axles take
