Were IH bale throwers made in the late 60's any good? My Dad had a New Holland thrower that couldn't put bales into the back of the wagon. I've heard JD throwers were real good. I've been asking the local junk yard how much he wants for an IH thrower and he wants $300 - seems like a lot to me considering one can buy the baler its sitting on for $300.

My brother's #10 (originally my Dad's) has worn out a 46 and 47 baler and now is on a 430. It has worn out a few V belts and bearings. We modified it so it can be steered by hydraulic cylinder. This allows you to build the load better. Now some of the rubber rollers are getting worn and don't throw loose bales as well.

Have had no compliants for 30 + years of service.

When we were dairying late 70's-earlie 80's had a 46 with the 6 roller thrower and never had any problems with it, many a time till we got the setting correct it would throw the bale over the back of a 16' wagon

If it's a #10 (with six rollers) I'd stay away from it. They work ok if the baler makes tight, clean bales; but if a knot is weak the rollers rip the bale apart and wrap themselves up in it. And it doesn't handle long or heavy bales very well, they can jam in the chute. You know one is jammed when you see blue smoke coming off one of the belts.
