Folks:

Here is a photo of the 20 foot hay rack I built this past spring. The running gear is an IH 330 built by the Electric Gear Co. and is rated at 8 tons. The sills are made of 2 x 10 treated stock laminated with glue and screws. The deck is made of 2 x 8 x 8 lumber screwed to the sills. I can get 250 bales on it with a little work.

My Dads 20' throw rack is much worse then pileing on that waygon I imagine. When I had to pile Dads rack it wasn't full til it was piled to the top of the cage form front to back, usually 350 bales later. I would much rather pile on a 20' flat rack any day. Great job Jim.

You did a nice job on that rack. A couple of years ago I put a new bed on our rack. I took the old 1" weathered lumber that was on it originaly and constructed a 7'-0" tall primitive looking cupboard that I sold for more than what the new material cost for the rack.
As far as a wagon behind a baler, I've came to like my 18' car trailer with 14K axles as well as anything. Just load it evenly from front to back, and it works great. Have a great Christmas!

nice looking rack.
glad I am not loading it. I prefer one I don't have to walk so far to load. I would rather throw high than walk. just my opinion.

definitly be proud of what you built as you did a nice job.

Great work, you should be proud of it, as I'm sure you are. Never mind the folks who don't like it because of the large size, they can use whatever they want.
Wish I had one of those when in the bale business. My dad was to old school to have something as handy, he made us load a two ton truck, one throwing bales up on the tall truck bed, the other stacking. That was hard work!
The only way I could get out of picking up the bales was to quit complaining and get it done, then I could stop!

nice job and electric wheel gears are sweet. I'll stir the pot tho--20' is a long way from the chute to the first tier of hay, second thats a LOT of hay, my 18' wagon tries to pull the baler sideways the last few bales and this year in the soft ground it did slide the baler sideways just before the tractor cut down and I had to drop the wagon. It isn't stuck until you have to get a chain, right? not picking a fight just some ideas

You must have high school track stars for hay help. Looking at that rack makes my knees hurt!
I would rather load 2/ 16 or 14 ft. racks than that thing. Esp. if the bales are very heavy.
Why didn't you put a conveyor on it when it was
built?

Just kidding.....nice rack!

Good looking outfit, I think you did it right. It looks very similar to one that my dad built many years ago for hauling large round bales. I think we used to get 8 bales on the deck and sometimes would put 2 more up on top.

I bought the running gear at a local consignment sale. It was holding a gravity box, that I took off and use for feed in the barn. I disassembled the running gear, sand blasted, and repainted before I built the rack.
