I own an old B47 hay Baler and have problems with it tying bales. I renewed the knotters some time ago and also the knives.

Does anyone have any settings or advice to help me I have ordered a manual but it will arrive after this harvest.

Dennis, is the twine being cut off square? By this i mean is it cut with out leaving some strands uncut. I have a model 46 which is about the same as your 47. I have had to move the twine knifes over by putting washers bettween the twine knife and the casting it bolts to this will cause the twine to be cut alittle quicker and not leave a few strands to untie the knot. I get small washers with 1/4 inch hole in center thats what the bolts are that hold the knifes. You will have to go trial and error until it cuts the twine clean and makes a good knot. I have about 6 washers on the bottom bolt and maybe 5 on top. It will miss 2 or 3 in a hundred but not bad for a ih baler. Also don,t run the baler to fast run the tractor about 1/3 of the way open and no more than half. Running these old balers to fast will cause them to not tie. Also keep the twine knifes razor sharp. If you replaced the old knifes with the newer ones replace the blade often. Make a nice medium size windrow you are feeding it about right if you get about 16 strokes per bale minimum . Also clean the trash around the knotters once in awhile this helps also oh maybe every hour or so if you pull a wagon ever load maybe. Think this may be a straring point.
