Could someone tell the meaning of a fully mounted plow versus semi mounted, and if there is an unmounted? Thanks.

Ok so mounted would be like a three point or quick hitch type, Semi mounted has a tailwheel that takes some of the weight. An unmounted would be a trailer type. Clears that up. I was thinking it all had to do with trailer types, the way they were mounted on the wheels or something. I'm looking to get a three bottom for my Farmall M and wanted to know what I'm reading in the adds. Thanks guys.

Is it a set of bedders that you are looking for? If so, send me an email because I know where there might be a set. You would have to get points and wings, but the mounts and beams I know are still there. Also may know where there is a set of 4 row cultivators, that is if the owner would be willing to part with them. Where is it that you are located? Send me an email if you're interested and I will try to make contact and see if they are up for sale or not.

look at 2-16 or 3-14 pull type (trailer) plows OR you might be able to pick up a 3-16 cheaper & if it's to big for the tractor you can convert it to 2-16 ,if ya got big tools...ie blue wrench

Richard: Mounted plows may or may not have tail wheels however they do not lift or suspend plow when it is in raised position. Semi mounted plows have a tail wheel which lifts and carriers rear of plow when in a raised position. On your question of unmounted plow I guess a trailer plow would fall in this catergory. Trailer plows having a furrow and land wheel near front of plow and can be equiped with a rear tail wheel Some trailers have the tail wheel and some don't.

To clarify Hugh's comment about a semi-mounted plow- it would have a hydraulic cylinder that lifts the rear end of the plow. To operate, you would activate the three-point and the remote valve at each end of the field. Mounted plows MAY have a wheel at the left rear corner, but it is a gauge wheel, used to control plowing depth. It is mounted firmly, but adjustable.

fully mounted is one on the 3 point or two point hitch. a semi has the tail wheel on the ground when it is raised
