Rebuilding Wobble Box???

Well here's the scoop guy's. NH now longer sell's the wobble box as a whole unit(which I knew). I can get all the new bearings and guts from NH for the box and rebuild it myself. Or I can get a used wobble box for $350.00 and who knows how long it will work. I'm leaning to rebuilding with new bearing myself what do you all think? Anyone rebuild a wobble drive before? I orderd a manual for the NH 469 so I can do any adjusting before hand. Haybine is in mint condition other than the bushing that goes through the cutting bar with bolt problem.

Matthew, you might want to consider the used unit. The 469 wobble assembly is not rocket science, however, I have seen fellows who are not familiar with them attempt to repair them only to have trouble soon after. If you are mechanicly inclined, I'd say go ahead and try it. But if not....., ok, enough said. One other thing: Make sure the used assembly comes off of a 461,467, or 469. I'm sorry to disagree with one of the other guys who replied here, but the 488 will not work. No wobble box off of a haybine which has a model number larger than 469 will work. Steve

The wobble box assm. for a 469 may not be available anymore, but as I recall the one from a 488 will bolt in with some minor mods. Call the dealership I used to work for, LLoyd Miller & Sons in Corunna MI. 989-743-4049 and talk to Frank Miller ( I actually worked for their Fowlerville store, but Frank is THE answer man when asking tech questions). He'll be able to tell you for sure, and they probably have all the bearings and seals in stock to rebuild yours.

Check the crusher shaft bearings carefully, you don't want to spin them on the shaft.

Check the slip clutch bolts, they sometimes break.

Check the wire rope in the crusher tensioning system, it can rust and break.

I would rebuild the wobble box, the used one may be worn. Take the bearings to a local bearing house and have them matched up.
