Ferguson-Towner Offset Disk Harrow

There is still one of these old offset disk harrows in a field near me. The guy wants $375 which is way out of line, as the implement has spent a number of years sitting in the weather. But, it still is tugging at me, and I could probably strike a bargain with him. I plan to till around the edge of a small pond in order to plant food crops for ducks. The idea of the harrow in the mud somewhat, but the tractor (Ferguson TO-20) out of the mud because the harrow is offset, is interesting. Does anybody out there have any ideas here?

I hate to tell ya, but $375 isn't out of line for a Towner/Ferguson offset disk at all, even if it is weathered. First, compared to Ferguson tandems, they are rare on the east coast. Second, there is a big collector following for all things Ferguson that has been developing over the past few years. You should see some of the stuff at auctions up here in northern New Jersey, like Ferguson ABO tandem lift disks. Back in 1992, you'd be lucky to get $100 for one in working order at auction. Now, expect to get $400+. Even the 2-row cultivators are bringing $250 if they still have their shields and depth stake. Seems like those old cultivators were everywhere and a dime a dozen not too long ago.

I am not up on prices of machinery like I used to be. Towner was one of the better offsets, the first question is how wide is it what kind of shape are the disc blades in. Seven ft. with good blades I would think that would be cheep. My Dad and I bought a Roam 7" onced for $125 with a bent frame straightened it put new blades on it had about $500 in it, used it for years I sold it about 10 years for $1200. It had wheels on it.
