Hay equipment package deal.....

I have the opertunity to get the following. All is in working condition except the haybine needs work in the wobble drive. All equipment is stored in side all the time. What to offer for all?

NH 268 baler (no thrower)

NH 469 haybine (needs work in the wobble drive)

NH 258 9' hay rake

One hay rack & running gear (needs new wood deck)

What is a resonable offer for all the equipmant?

Here in Michigan that baler would bring $750 to $1500. The rake would be hot and usually $1500+ if it is in good shape. Never bought a running gear without rack but the complete ones go for up to $500 here. I wouldn't touch that old haybine.
Guys here can correct me, but I think that is the first haybine made from the 60's and with a bad wobble I wouldn't consider it worth having. Still, I have seen them sell for $2-300. All these are from auction I attended when looking for my equipment over the last three years. You can do a lot better without an auctioneer and by buying the package.

I like in the upper midwest, northwest Iowa and in our area the baler and rake should each bring a grand. I would say that you should find out what it would take to completely overhaul the wabble box, don't do it half way, put in everything new or you will fix it again in six months. How are the teeth on the rake? You can spend $200 replacing them in a hurry. The running gear isn't worth anything in our area, about $50 to $100 depending upon the tires. If the rack needs new lumber you may want to check the stringers on the frame to see if they are rotted also. Basically, the wooden rack isn't worth anything unless the stringers are good. Also, what size is the rake, 14 ft. or 16 ft. Everyone in our area is going to 18 ft. to 24 ft. I purchased an 8 ton running gear with 11Lx15 8 ply tires recently from a company that never used it. They purchased it in the spring of 2003, it sat outside, rusted a bit, they painted it black and I purchased it for $500.

Where I live in New Jersey a baler w/o a thrower isn't worth much unless it's a newer one set up for use with a New Holland Stackliner.
So, figure $1000 tops for the baler.
A 469 Haybine with wobble trouble isn't worth $200 around here. Everybody is going with disc cutterbars these days.
A nice 258 rake is worth $1500 here.
The running gear is worth $50-$500 depending what its weight rating is, what kind of tires and wheels are on it, and how tight the steering is.

I gave $400 for a NH super 67 baler, $600 for a NH 469 haybine, and $250 for a "wheel rake".

The baler needed minor adjustments, the haybine needed the drawbar redone (seems to be a weak spot on 469 'bines seen several that were bent), and the wheel rake required nothing. If I could change anything I would rather have bought a 7'ft mower and a bar rake.

Value on used equipment can be difficult to determine sight unseen. I'll agree that bar rakes hold some value. I wouldn't give more than $1800 for all three pieces... That said, new parts are still available for this equipment. I even know where you might be able to find a used wobble box.

Wife gave $750 for a 268 in shabby but good mechanical condition. We'd used it, and it does do a good job.

The value may depend on where you live as well as
the condition. I'm in New England where equipment
good or bad is in short supply so prices are up.
I doubt I could buy that rake for less then $1000.
Even with a package deal buy, my guess would be
$3800 in my area, if the machines are half decent.

I buy and sell used equipment, and have dealt with the same stuff you're talking about. I started running a total in my head. Then I read Kelly's post We both came up with the same ammount. That's a good thing. I wouldnt pay MORE than that. The most valuable item in your list, around here, would be the rake, believe it or not. I get at least $750 a piece out of them. John

$1500 in my opinion would be a good price.
Figure you may spend $1000 on the wobble box.
$600 for a good wood deck for the hay rack.
I dont know any thing about the 258 rake. I figured 5 or 6 hundred but I maybe to low on that.
I figured $500 for the baler as a starting point. If in better than average shape go up some.
