What do you all think of a John Deere 24T square baler? Are they realiable are parts hard to find? What would one cost you in field ready condition? I saw one in the paper that they wanted $1100. Is that high or low or what? Thanks for any and all help.

I HAVE 14T BOUGHT AT AUCTION FOR $100 LITTLE TINKERING AND MADE MY OWN HAY THIS YEAR. NEVER MISSED A BALE EXCEPT AT TWINE CHANGE.

John Deere balers in general are very good. The only draw back I can think of is the cost of parts. I had a 14T that needed knotter work, and
the cost of the parts were high. The nicest thing
about JD's is the fact that they haven't changed
them much from the 50's. A proven design. New Holland also makes a good baler, and it is
my understanding that parts are cheaper to by for
them. I now have an Oliver 62T that is in great
condition. Parts are harder to find, but that is
reflected in what you have to pay for it.

it depends on the condition. it is definitly an improvment over the 14T i had. fewer shearbolts,etc. my 14T ,if it went 100 bales without a mistie it was a miracle! i still liked it but it was touchy even with several new parts on the knotter.i never pulled any other baler behind my tractors but worked behind almost every brand. if you like it and it will do the job for you and you can afford it, then i would go for it. i would go for a 24 T myself if i had to get another and couldnt afford a jd 336. and i am not a jd man but with dealers getting fewer and farther inbetween the green paint might be a plus. good luck and stay safe!

24t's are great balers..if you buy one store inside, grease, and pay attention to condition of knotters, and you have a baler that'll outlive ya. a retired neighbor farmer friend is good to know too, if 24't acts up.

I use a 224T...they tell me it is just a heavy duty version of the 24T...and I would have to say I like it a lot. It's pretty fool proof. Manual and parts are available. You can't beat Deere for keeping the parts available. Here in Michigan that $1100 is pretty fair for a good one. I've seen them go less. Mine is best I've seen and I paid $900. Still, I think I would buy it. I've seen them go $1500 too. Offer the guy $900. Maybe you'll take it home for one large!

I have used massey and new holland balers but the 24t can throw out mores bales faster than any old baler i"ve eber seen without breaking any shear bolts.

They are good balers. I sold mine right out of the hay field this past summer for $750.00. I was baling at a neighbors place, and he wanted to borrow it, but I needed it myself to bale. He offered to buy it, so I sold it and bought a 336 with #40 kicker. It works great also.

In my neck of the woods, $1100 for a 24T in field ready condition is a good buy.

Baled about 3000 bales with one this year. They do a good job if they haven't been worn out. But they are getting to be pretty old. I had to replace one part on the header that I had to do a dealer search to find. But for baling a few thousand bales a year I would find it hard to justify buying a new one compared to the price of a good used one.

The T series are awful good balers, I even do a little custom baling with an old 14T, and it rarely misses a bale. I put up about 8500 bale of hay and straw last year, probably didnt have more than a half hours trouble with it. I cant help you on price, we have had ours forever though it say without being used for about 15 years. My only complaint is that I wish the pickup was wider to accomadate a 20' windrow, even raked it is not quite wide enough.

The 24T was a good baler you can still get parts for them and even though $1100 may be a little high if its in good condition it maybe a steal. I've had 14Ts for years and loved them, but due to back problems had to stop useing them. I still have a 14T and 24T for parts if you need any.

I have a 14T and after using several NH balers i really like the 14t. It pulls sooooo oo easy, runs quiet and has not missed a bale yet. I saw a really perfect 24t sell for $1100 a few weeks ago.
