I have a 5400 white planter. The one I have has small electric motors with a blower (like a heater fan in a car) on each row unit. The fan pressurizes a chamber that holds the seed. The preasure holds the seed to a disk that turns on a verticial plain as the seeds pass a cutoff valve the pressure is cut off and the seed falls to the seed futtow. I hopu you understand my explanation. I dont know about a PTO driven pump, some planters had a PTO driven alternator for electric for the motors if your tractor did not have a big enough alternator.
The disign of this planter is you do not need a lot of seed plates, most seed sizes will fit on 1 or 2 plates.

The hydrolic moter runs a fan to supply the air preasure.Hydrolic planters are the newer ones and work better with less problems. The pumps are very expencive to replace so see if it works fist.
