New Idea Crimper

Didn't get the Hesston Haybine. Anyone got any info on a New Idea crimper? Parts still available? I have a 455 N.H. sickle mower with the pto on the rear to run a crimper. Thought I might do that next year instead of getting a haybine.

John, Though I am a New Holland man, I live in Amish country and they do use New Idea crimpers alot. I have worked on quite a few model 751 and 752 New Idea crimpers. Not being a New Idea dealer, I'm not sure how many parts are available thru their dealers, but here in Lancaster County, Pa we have a couple of Amish shops that specialize in the New Idea crimpers. They carry most parts and are even making New Holland 402 style crimper rolls to put in New Idea crimpers. So I would not be afraid to purchase one of them. Steve

Thanks for the info. Is there an advantage to N.H. style rollers? I have kept an eye out for a 402 with no luck. Shows a picture of one behind a 455 mower in the owners manual for my mower. There is a New Idea crimper coming up in a sale is why I am asking about the New Idea. What kind of prices do they bring in your part of the country?

A crimper is just that. A set of crimping rolls. You must mow your hay with a separate sickle mower. Then a brilliant engineer in the employ of New Holland thought "why don't we put the rollers right behind the sickle bar, and put a reel over the bar to positively feed the cut hay to the rollers?" Thus was born the 460 Haybine (which is a New Holland trademark. Similar machines from other makers are mower-conditioners, not Haybines).
