the near full light on the controll box does not light up while the bale is being rolled nor does the alarm sound, even when the side door is open and you press the switch manually with the bale still in the baler it still wont work. but if there is no bale in the baler and the switch is pressed the light flashes and the alarm sounds.
also we are having trouble with the hay not starting to roll with first bit of grass, its like the hay does not grip to the belt so it can turn.

It sounds as if you need to clean out the bale start tension spring. The spring will get filled up chat and you will not have the proper start tension on your belts. We adjusted some of the 530 & 535 balers and this has fixed the starting problems for them. It could be also that the belts have warn off much of the softer rubber for traction and the belts will need to be replaced. Likely it is the simple adjustment.

Rodney, does gate latched indicator work?If I remember correctly it has to work for the full size indicator to work. You might need to change shims on gate latches or adjust gate switches.ON hard starting of hay do you have all teeth in pickup? Are you running pickup as high as possible?Have you ever welded a bead on the bars of metal starter roll? The welds help starter roll get a grip on the hay.I bale in sandy soil and have to weld on my starter roll every yr.When I was A JD service manager yr's ago when 430 balers came out thats what JD told me to do if there was a starting problem. If you don't have netwrap make beads as rough as possible.Welding works on newer type starter roll as I run a JD 467.Jim B

A trick I learnt with a 550 when I was baling material that was 'reluctant to roll' was to start each bale at a reduced PTO rpm, then increase to 540 when the core had formed
