JD 507 Gyramor

I was wondering if any of you had any experience with a JD 507 Gyramor 8foot finish mower. THe one Im looking at need a spindle on the right side and posibly the bearings. THe owner says he thinks a clutch is slippng on it where the angle gear box goe from chain drive to the middle spindle. I think its just a woodruff key stripped. The deck has a few rough edges on the front ill fix all of that later on by cutting it out and forming some new on.

I had one. Did a nice job as long as it was working. Clutches didn't always slip, broke the chain a lot. If it were my mower and it needed spindles and bearings, I wouldn't bother trying to fix it. Just not worth it to me. However, if you like to tinker with stuff, go ahead.

It really just needs the one spindle he may have it. Ill probalby take my big lathed and change it over a full belt drive. I can get the whole thing for 25 dollars. If the one missing spindle isnt too high Ill buy it. the ody isnt broken any where just has a dent into the lower front of the deck. I traded for a 4000 Ford I might get the 507 for. Is there a clutch in the middle spindle? I can weld it up because i have an overrunning clutch on the tractor. It has the clutch on the pto shaft that is in good shape to.

Just to be clear (to others reading, if nothing else) that an over running clutch will NOT protect you. It only ratchets in one direction allowing the implement to spin down without keeping the tractor moving. Any obstruction you hit will at best bust the over-running clutch, or bust something else.

Now you might have a more expensive deal that _includes_ a slip clutch, and then you are well protected. But typical over running clutches do not.

THe tractor hs the over running clutch, THe pto shaft also has a slip cltch on the input of the PTO with the 5 disc clutch pack and springs. It seem to have an extra ratchet clutch on the out put of the gfear box where it goes from a chanin drive to belt drive. But it may not be a clutch and just be a stripped woodruff key. I couldnt really tell. Most finish mowers that size rarely have 2 driveline clutches. If its a stripped woodruff key the bore through the drive pulley may be worn but i can re bore and bush it out. Its kinda hard for me to explain on here.
