NH 269 pulls hard?

I have a 269 baler with a 54A thrower on it, and it seems that it takes too much power to pull. My 45 hp tractor works very hard, and my 65 hp tractor doesn't pull it as easy as i thought it should. I also have a 270 NH and 14t JD without throwers and they pull very easy, even with a smaller tractor. Does the thrower take much power? What else could be wrong? It seems as though it turns hard even when no hay is in it. Thanks for any help.

Are the rollers in the plunger stuck or set too tight against the rails?

Throwers do take more power. However, you should have enough power. If not, try a 620 John Deere. (I'm just kidding!) The condition of the baler certainly has something to do with power consumption, however, I believe the difference you see is all in the thrower. If you want to check this out, grab the flywheel of the baler and get a feel for how hard it turns. Then disconnect the rear thrower belt and try it again. You will be amazed at the difference.
