I have a really nice 24T that I got at a farm I was cleaning up, looks like new and it was free,,havent tried it out yet but we will in the spring..Now I have been offered a 14T with the manual for 20 bucks, the 14T has something wrong so it keeps shearing pins, the owner says he tried everything. I need to know if most of the parts will interchange,, i believe they will, but dont want to buy something I wont have a use for, also how much help will the 14T manual be for the 24T,,,,Thanks,,,Jim

I ran a 14T for 25 years and a 24T for the last 7 or 8. The knotter gears are the same, but the mechanism to trip them is different. So is the way the tucker blades (fingers) are driven, the bale length wheel, and also the drive for the auger is changed to a belt on the 24. The pickup strippers and teeth are the same. The flywheel is the same after around 32000. That's all I can think of right now. If one of them has the long spring-type hold-downs for the pickup they are interchangeable and work a lot better than the "spike" type. Are you the Jim with the JD 420?

Its still there, sitting in a snowbank,, I think i will buy it. I am not a tightwad, I just didnt want it unless it would be of some help to me, as it is I have 9 balers sitting here and only use my NH 68 hayliner, most of the balers were freebies as were almost all my equipment,,,Thanks for the replies,,,Jim

i had a 14T that would shear pins sitting in the barn!!! as long as it tied 98 out of a 100 bales i wouldnt get too concerned.

The two of them are almost the same, and it sounds like the 14T needs to be timed and or some new chains put on. Both are good balers even if they are as old as I am. I payed $29 for the manual I have for a 14T so jump on it yesterday most salvage balers sell for around $100 around here

I'd give him the twenty bucks-it's a cheap learning tool. The manual alone is worth more than that! One bill hook is $50.00+! If nothing else, you can make something out of the wheels and axles. He may think he tried "everything" but I doubt it. They made 75000 + of these. It WILL bale if properly set up. I bet it's out of time which the manual will explain. The knotters are very similar, if not identical. The two balers aren't much different but I couldn't tell you which parts are interchangable. HTH.

The knotters haven't changed in fifty plus years. They are identical. The only real difference in any JD knotter is the special billhock you need for plastic twine.
