When we started making hay here in Ohio, we bought a good, nearly new 479, and ran it on our '53 JD 70 (50hp stock, ours was/is probably at 60hp), they made a good match, as 3rd gear on the 70 (~6mph) worked real well with the 479 in good yielding hay. We put the 479 in the back of the shed a few years later when we went to a 12ft center pivot model (499) and started running that on an IH 1086. We currently run a NH 1442 Disbine with a NH TM155. Sorry to ramble on like that, guess thats what happens on these rainy November days.

Hey Bob, as long as it is green, you will have enough horsepower! (LOL) I'm just kidding. To those who read this and don't like green, don't write me hate mail. I'm just having some fun. Bob, the sales literature used to say 35 horsepower. Steve

We ran a 469 on a Ford 3000 (33 hp) and Ford 5000 (54 hp). The 5000 would run it to max capacity in heavy hay. The 3000 had all it wanted. Be careful on hills. Agree with advice on cutter bar maintenance. Watch bearings on conditioner rollers, don't let them spin on shaft.

I believe the 35 D should be about the 39 HP, That is what the 135 is rated at, the 65 D I think should be about 52 HP unless it is one of the very early 65's then about 45 HP

Yes it is and a 65 sould be heavy enough to not have much side draft. Keep a good sycle and guards in it, guards are overlooked they wear and get dull also keep them straight. When the cutter bar is in good shape a 479 will glide like a sharp knife through butter. Happy Thanksgiving Jim
