Which is the preferred sickle mower? I've been looking at both and the ford 501's are always a little more in price. For the same lenght sickle and overall condition of the mowers, JD's seem to be cheeper why is that.

I don't know. Around here there's a guy who has been trying to sell a couple of 501 mowers for years. He's been asking $700. I got my JD #9 for free and it works fine.

We used a #9 for 15 years with good service. Everyone in area had JD, not a ford in sight.
Make a few swath boards and pitman arms as spares.
