Haybine Problem solved.

I went back to Larson Implement and relooked at the NH 469 haybine I looked at in Sept.
I decided to give in and give him the $1100 he was asking for.
The deciding factor for me was the fact that this one has a brand new Wobble box on it, New sickle and the rollers show almost no wear.
I will let you know if it was a fair deal or not next summer :-)

KElly I sold one in great condition last spring for well lets just say a little less. I also sold a couple of balers. I have never had great over at larsons I bought most of my stuff at auctions and Baribeau in St. Croix falls. as far as the haybine I used mine for two years and never had a problem they are a good little cutter.

This is the 1st thing I have gotten from larsons.
I guess I will see if they are any good. prices seem to be about 1/3rd less than Dordals.
I have seen the whole gambit on prices for these things. Auction prices are cheap for sure. I just dont know enough about them yet to go that route. Most I had seen had obvious structial problems. Like hitting fence post and such or loose gear boxes.
Most used ones I have seen that look like they work are in the $850 to $2000 range.

The only reason I got this one compared to any of the others was the new wobble box and he ran it for me. Heck Dordals has a 7 footer with a loose gear box he wants $1600 for. He has the best wore out stuff at new prices I have found yet.

I will have to wait to find my bargin on the next one. After I bone up on them.

Sounds like a good deal. It has the new parts in the places you need them. The first Haybine I ever ran was a 469 back in the early 80's on a farm I worked on. It would cut around 160 acres of alfalfa plus some custom work. Had very little trouble with it. Ran a coulple opposum through it. They plug it up sometimes. Looks like you got some snow up north. Hey Kelly,I think you got a good buy on your haybine with a new wobble box!I'd like to find one before spring.I see a lot of NH 499's on the market but I think they have problems,good luck with yours,Bob.

Kelly, sure must be nice to be doing all that buying lately. Sounds like you get something new every month to add to your farm. Anyway what type of mower were you using prior to the NH haybine? Is that 469 a 7' or 9' cutting bar? Is that about an late 60's haybine. Just learning all about older hay equipment myself.

I was using a old JD#5 mower.
I believe the 469 is a 60's vintage haybine.
I was all set until I decided to add big bales to the mix.
So far the Haybine was the one thing I did plan on buying. I cant complain though. Ive gotten my whole set up for about what some one would pay for just a disk bine (used).Maybe $7500 total.
Thats 3 tractors (one not running yet), 3 square balers ( one parts), 1 round baler, Nh Rake, 2 hay racks 1 haybine,3 mowers 2pt plow, 10'IH disk and some drags. Ive seen guys spend that much on a 4 wheeler. I get to fun farm instead!!!

I use to justify some of my purchases by telling myself that folks have a lot more tied-up in their bass boats than I do in my old tractor and implements and you know what, they still do!

Oh, before I forget, I was having a look-see at your web site the other evening to see some of this new stuff, but no pictures! I hope there are more of them to come!

I'm with you Kelly!! No need to spend big bucks for as you say "fun farming". Between my buddy and me we have about $10,000 wrapped up total. 3 tractors, all the hayin' gear plus a NI 323 picker, 494A 4 row planter, corn elevator and crib, and nice gravity wagon. We do need a decent haybine yet. I think this year was the last for the #9 sickle. One thing we've learned is to buy decent older equipment, but not JUNK. Stick with the brands and models that are well recognized. BTW, I have the 4 wheeler too!!!
