Hi All,

I have just started trying to use a mf124 baler and I'm having problems with the knotters. The knots are hanging on the bill hook on both sides. It appears that the twine is wrapped around the hook. Have tried a few things to no avail. Anyone got any suggestions.

Thanks
Brendan

Jim has made some good points. You might want to check also that the twine is threaded properly from the twine box, thru the isolators and needles and that the twine tension is "at minimum so as to provide only a MODERATE amount of drag on the twine"(quote from MF #12 manual). I believe, but I'm not positive that the #124 uses a similar knotter. HTH.

The MF knotters are a little different than the JD or NH knotters in that they do not have a wiper arm that swipes the knot off the billhook. Rather, the motion of the bale as it moves down the chute is supposed to pull the knots off the hooks. On my 124 I find that the knots hang up on the first one or two bales if I start with an empty baler. Once there is enough "back pressure" in the chute by having it full of hay the problem seems to go away. What that usually means in my case is cutting the twine off the hook on the first bale and feeding the hay back through by hand until the chute is packed.

If you have an operator's manual, it has a very good section on the proper adjustments of the knotter. I recommend getting a manual and making sure the knotter is properly set up to begin with.

Also, make sure the billhook is nice and shiny-bright so the twine will slide off more easily. If it looks rusty and/or dirty, you might want to remove it and clean it up good with a wire wheel.

Good luck.
