When to use side hill Combine?

I've seen plenty of regular combines and a few side hill models.

How hilly does a farm need to be before you switch to a side hill model?

When your hind end doesn't have enough pucker to keep you in the seat. Probably after you get past 10%.

I use sidehill all time,the heads follow the ground alot nice than regular machines. The new one now have contour master which is suppose to help in that department now. I like the sidehill machine.

I live in eastern Washington state, which has some very steep slopes. Side hill combines are used everywhere even on the level ground. I attached a photo of a shot of a sidehill behind our house.

have run regular combines on short slopes like that, up the slope circle the field down the shallow slope and back up the steep head first.Always told go to sidehill when slope affects how the crop moves across the straw walkers and pans. Don't know if slope would bother rotarys.

They used to mold board plow all this ground. When I moved here you would see washes 2 to 3 feet wide and that deep. They have upto 15 of top soil, estimates are they loose 1 bushel of soil for every bushel of crop. Some locations have proven yields of 120 bushel on dryland. I have seen combines running at a 45 degree angle when combining on the contour. Most of the farmers still use crawlers because they have trouble keeping 4 wheel drives on the hill. Most of the new combines are too heavy to keep on the slopes so they use JD 6622 and 7722 or IH 1460 and 1480.
