I just bought a NH 404 crimper and based on recommendations I read here (you might do a search on crimpers, crusher and conditioners), I believe it to be one of the better ones. I am now in the hunt for a 7' sickle bar with a PTO out the back so I can mow and condition at the same time!

The New Holland 404 and the New Idea crimpers are the most numerous around here. The Amish come from Pennsylvania to get them when a good one becomes available. I have seen very few JD or IH crimpers or crushers, only one Cunningham, and one Oliver (so the sale bill said anyway. I didn't see any paint or ID on it). The Cunninghams are supposed to be good, and are more numerous in the Midwest than in the Mid-Atlantic region.

where are you located and how many do you want? I have a Farmhand that needs tires, a JD that needs tires, and a parts JD,, have to pickup a good NH 404 and its parts machine in the spring,, Jim

yes they are still around. A Deere unit just sold last weekend on sale. I know where their is a New Idea unit for sale now.

I've used a NH # 404 "Crusher" which is a pulled pto conditioner - basically a Moco without the knife. It works pretty good. I haven't used it lately because of the very dry conditions we've had in recent years. They were originally designed to hook up directly behind a PT swather until somebody at NH figured "maybe we should put these two machines together". HTH.
