You aren't crazy, but persistance will be required for your project. You didn't say what plow but if you have 2 16s you will be covering 32 inches per through. It will take you about an hour per acre at that rate if you are doing 3 MPH. Sounds like heaven if you like plowing.

I did not read what the others said, but No, you are not crazy. We always had IH stuff, but I can recall plowing 40 acres with a 2 bottom plow when I was a boy. I think it took several days.

i'm not sure if your mf35 has live power, but if you got an ORC HANGING on you pto shaft it will most likely hit the front coulter & do damage

I too am envious. I have an old 2-bottom & the only thing it's used for is to plow gardens.

Ive plowed 12 or so every year here for nearly 20 yrs. I started with my Grandads 1934 CC Case, whichI still use, but not for plowing/discing, and went to what I now use, a 1937 F-30. I use a MC D 2 14, or my grandads 3 14 Case plow converted back to a 2 14. The 3 14 pulls harder in these sandy soils than they did up north. Well maybe not pulls harder, although aI did have some serious hard pan that id never ran into up north, but the tractors maybe dont get the same traction. I dont know. Course not being able to find somone handy to sharpen a plow share nowadays dosent help either. I plow , my main field is flat 10 acres. I plow in strips against a hill that rises on the East of the field. I plow N to S, in strips and back furrow up a ridge in a different place nearly every year to make tempory, yearly terrices.

Somewhere I once saw a book giving instructions for plowing. Laying out the field, dead furrows, headlands and the like. Any know about such a book.

What about those guys who years ago plowed 10 acres with a single furrow behind two 'one h.p.' horses! Apparently for every acre they plowed they had to walk 12 miles.

I am a bit envious of you, 10 whole acres? All I had to plow was a tiny little garden patch, I was done way too soon.

my big problem was probably plowing too deep and going too slow doing it. never did find too much of a hard pan.except on the ends occasionally. keep sharp shares and set coulters for what you are plowing. my grandfather farmed 40 acres with a 8n ford. i have plowed with a wd ,d17, 4010 jd,D-21 allis.farmall M,jd A.2-155 white and MM950and 8n ford. i'd rather use small equipment any day myself .good luck and be careful.

Around here we raise a lot of mint and it must be turned over in the fall. You may experiance a lot of wind errosion. One thing to consider anyway It may be better to wait until the ground is warm enough to germinate something to hold it

Yes you are! To remedy the situation, you should let ME plow that 10 (+-) acres for you. That is the most fun you can have on an old tractor! I'll go miles out of my way, to get the opportunity to plow anything! John

My handy dandy chart says a 2-14 will plow 8.42 acres in a 10 hour day going 3 miles per hour. Russ

You guys didn't know my Daddy. Ten hours in the Spring or Fall was just a good start. I have started on an old WD45 many days at 6:00AM, quit for dinner (lunch to you Yankees) and finished at 8:00PM. Just another day in my youth. Now I travel miles to plow with my 1952 JD AR and model 44-H plow and still love it.

Absolutely not!! Even if you don't have much experience, you will by the end of the feild. One suggestion, don't have a dead furrow every 20-50 feet, space it out a little more, easier to work over in the spring.
