Either _can_ run a tiller. The question is, how hard is the ground, how many times do you want to go over it, and do you want this to be fun, or do you want it to be work?

The H has slower gearing, but no 3pt hitch - you didn't say you had an aftermarket.

Rototilling is fun & enjoyable with a tractor that has enough power to pull a tiller at least as wide as the rear wheels; a live pto; a very slow 1st gear for tough situations. Then you can operate the tiller in all sorts of conditions and get good results the 1st time through.

The farther you get away from those ideals, the more difficult, the more troubling, the work will be.

You can get it done tho. So it's not a black & white, yes or no.

It can work, but won't be as much fun, and to get good results will be more time & effort.

Randy:

I'd been reading for years that the 8N wouldn't work with a tiller because of ground speed. But a few months ago, over on the 8N board, there was a guy who posted that he'd done it and it worked fine. You should search the site and read the post, because he convinced me it was possible and from all the comments I probably wasn't the only one convinced. Sometimes those of us who say it can't be done get overtaken by the guy who does it!

Randy I don't beleive the 8n or the H would be a good tiller tractor. You need something with live PTO and more HP than either of your tractors have. Just my .02 worth. Tom

a 8N will never be able to have the oooph to turn a tiller in the ground, and to tell the truth, Im pretty sure the H wont either. Depends on the gearing. I dont think the engines are big enough with the gearing theyve got to do the job
