Proper Settings 4 Disc Use

I'm using a 3-point style disc to disc up some old for a food plot in some abadoned pasture land that I've brush hogged the grass down on already. I'm trying to get it broke up good now so it wont be so hard to do in the spring. My question is how to properly adjust the disc for best operation. I assume that you adjust by the top of 3-point, adjust to level, or front section low rear high, or rear low front high?

I thought better and decided to plow the area first. I've gotten most of the area plowed, wish I could get some down force on the plow to make it dig in better too! I've accessorized my disc with a nice cedar log and a couple concrete blocks so hopefully it will work better.

If you are using a 3 pt plow you should also be able to adjust the top link so that the plow points kind of suck them selves down into the ground. Usually it a matter of not wanting the plow to dig too deep rather than wanting it to go deeper. Good luck

I have a mounted disc that I use from time to time. When trying to "break ground", I'll set it heavy on the front gangs. (By shortening the 3pt. top link) It throws all the wieght on the front, making it penetrate the ground more. After loosening up the soil, level it back out, so that front and rear are going into the ground about the same depth. This will level your ground better. I usually don't worry too much about how out of level" the first few passes get. When I'm making the final passes, I pull some sort of "drag" behind the disc. This gets everything back nice and level. I use a "chain harrow". Hope this helps, John

I agree with Indy, and you can also set the angle of the gangs to its most extreme angle if they are adjustable.
