I have an 8N with a Dearborn loader and a lot of downed trees thanks to Isabel. Is it possible to modify the Dearborn loader which is powered off a front mounted hyd. pump to power a 3pt log splitter ? If possible I would like to put aux. disconnects into the Dearborn system to power a log splitter. I would want to use separate valves for the splitter if possible. Other posts on this board suggest against using the PTO hyd. pump due to slowness and oil foaming.

You will probably need to get a power beyond hydraulic valve. It will have an inlet which will be hooked to the pump output. It will have a power beyond port which will hook to the Dearborn loader valve inlet port. It will also have an outlet port which will need to be run through a tee and hooked in with the outlet from the loader valve. I always recommend running those valve outlets to a filter which will then be routed to the reservoir. The work ports of that power beyond valve can be used for whatever you want to do with it. I use a PTO pump for my wood splitter on one of my tractors with no problem. I don't understand why foaming would be a problem.

You buy a PTO pump, have a reservior on the splitter, and the valve on the splitter as well.
