Ford 530 Hay Baler

Hi,
I have recently purchased a Ford 530 hay baler and am going over it before the season starts.I have had to pull out the feed fork gear box to replace oil seals. Before pulling out I marked everything to be sure to put it back in correctly. I Forgot to mark 1 thing and now am unsure about the timing. The manual says that I need to position the plunger on the forward stroke. My question - What would be the forward stroke? Would this be the stroke where the plungewr is moving toward the front of the baler ie. where it is hitched to the tractor , or forwrds meaning forward into the hay chamber. Please help me as I am a little confused now.

What it means is on the compression stroke. A quick note on what is going on here when it is baling. The plunger pushes hay past where the needles come through the bale chamber. The needles come up through slots in the plunger while the plunger holds the hay away from the path of the needles. The knot ties and the needles retract down while the plunger moves back to get more hay. Needles get broken when they are in the chamber and hay is being pushed toward them by the plunger.
