Made a trip to Wisc and picked up this plow.
Other than it is a IH 2 bottom fast hitch plow. I dont know any thing about it.
Any one know what model it is?
Also any tips you have for plowing with one of these would be nice.

To set up the plow pull the pins that allow it to move left to right. You should plow to a depth of 1/2 the size of the bottom. Find a flat floor to work on. Cut two blocks, 7" for a 14" plow, so that you can simulate having the wheels in a furrow. One in front and one under the landside wheel. Then adjust your hitch for depth and lock it with piston stop and use the leveling crank to level the plow up.

It will look a little strange out of the ground, but it needs to be "flying straight and level" when it's at plowing depth.

Kelly, also check your manual for proper set up of your fast hitch. On my 450 you had to pull a few pins to let the hitch "float" while plowing. I found this out after a few hours "Trying" to plow.

Kelly: It's a 34-20 Two furrow plow, or if it has breakaway feature it's a 34-F20A. Hope this helps you out.

Kelly: I really don't know about the moleboards. The plow I have is similer to yours but it is for my 300U,so it has a top link of sorts. I beleive you said that your 400 didn't have a rockshaft so it will have a second cyl. for depth control,so you don't have traction control. HTH. By the way I have no trouble pulling 3-16s(fasthitch) with my 400. I also have a 4-14 fasthitch that I haven't tried yet.

I know I only have the one lift cylinder on it now. I will have to out and look to see if there is a bracket to attach a depth control cylinder.
Some one told me I need to have a wheel attached to the plow frame to control depth. Never saw one like that b4.

Kelly,
The second cylinder goes on the right side up front on a bracket on the side of the transmission case and the piston on the cylinder goes to the front of the wishbone on the hitch. You will see the hitch bracket but may not have the trans bracket. To use you must pull the pin under the tractor on the hitch also on the right side by the hitch bracket. I think my 300's have either 1 1/2 by 8-10" stroke cylinders on them. Hope this helps.

That sure looks nice on your 400. You might want to polish those moldboards as they might not scour with the paint on them. Reading the earlier posts, the wires fastened to the plow really work as we did that when I was a kid. We fastened our wires, #9 wire, to the shank on the coulters. Have fun.

You'd be surprised how well paint scours off. I paint my bottoms every year. If the bottoms were painted after being cleaned up, even with a sand blaster, should clean just fine. Only thing that may be a problem, is MAJOR pitting. My #8 was a little pitted, and over 20 years of rust, probly closer to 35-40, but now it's nice and shiney again. If you have nice dry, soil, maybe even a hard hay-feild or pasture. Looser dirt is more likely to just be pushed, instead of turned. Just a matter of time, and they will be shined up, no matter how bad. Just takes a lower gear.
