Just wanted to share that my retirement from the corn business is complete. Gentleman from 60 miles down the road saw my 2 row NI picker and decided he had to have it. Offered to pay asking price plus pay delivery. Well, a 2 row wide tin, NI picker wont fit on most goosenecks so I pulled it for him. 60 miles of 15 mph, bouncing and whipping, with the last 20-2 lane road. 4 hours down and 1 back.

Whew, feels good to be home, take a nap. May celebrate and take the wife out for a steak. You all take care.
David

Sounds like a "fun" day. I'll bet that day lasted for at least a week!
Congrats on selling your last piece of your corn tools.
Your post reminded me of several long days I have had pulling antique implements down a road filled with impatient drivers!
Glad you had a safe trip!

Congradulations on "getting out of the corn business". It can be a bottomless pit. I sold an old "pull-type" combine a few years ago. The guy that bought it, told me he would give me an extra $250 to deliver it. It was ONLY 45 miles away. That was the hardest $250 I ever made! If I wasn't already bald, it would have made my hair fall out. By the way, my bro-in-law is looking for a picker. What did you get out of yours? Some of the ones we have looked at are nothing but J.U.N.K., and folks want a small fortune for them. Have a great day, John

Got $550 cash, plus paid for the delivery. I had put $950 on it and it was in a visable location (better than 10,000 cars a day). Deal was he paid for it before I delivered it, he didnt pay the delivery until I got there with it, if I hit something it was his picker and the delivery was as a favor to a friend only. Had less than 1000 acres through it, guy I bought my first farm from back in '87 bought it 1 year old from his brother in law in the early 70's, b-i-l was up near Seymour and picked 300 acres with it. The guy that got it raised 28 acres of corn a year. I only ever used it on 4 acres before I went to narrow rows. Finally figured out that growing 130 bushel corn was a money losing proposition, cheaper for me to buy soyhulls, cookie meal, or corn gluten and put the land in 5 ton timothy or 7 ton alfalfa

Well now that you have bucks in your pocket, why stop the steak buying with just your wife? Bet there is a lot of hungry felllows and ladies here.

As for me, well, I live too far away so will pass, but thanks anyway.
