Rotary Mowers - How much HP needed?

I'm ready for a rotary mower. What are the common widths of cut & how much HP do they require? I am aware they are HP hogs.

I was referring to a disc type hay mower. Would like to move out of the sickle bar era.

Assuming you mean a bush cutter rotary (bush hog ), you can type in the name bush hog international on a search and they have a section for their mowers that displays HP recommended. Of course, that varies as to 3 point or trailing style. It also is influenced by what you will cut--small brush, grass, overgrown weeds and grass hood high, etc.

What do you mean, HP hogs? An 8n Ford will easily handle a 5ft. brush hog type mower, an H Farmall will easily handle a 6ft. belly mount finish mower.

Do you mean disc or drum mowers for hay or do you mean 'bush hog' type mowers?
If you mean hay mowers, well I have not had much experience with drum mowers recently, but I have seen 5' disc mowers on MF 135 type tractors, and I ran an 8' Vicon on a MF 168 with no problems, even in heavy crops. don't engage the PTO with the engine ticking over though, give it a little bit of rpm first.
