Spent Saturday attending an estate auction. Lots of tools, some older equipment, three tractors. Managed to pickup, well not exactly "pick up" it weighs 4000lbs, but bought a big old metal laythe (self contained) for $80. Lot of bits and tools for it for $12.50. All the bar stock I could carry for $0 (1/2" to 2" x 4'). A NI rake on rubber ($10), A JD boom sprayer ($35), and a Ford baler ($85). Bid on a tractor but they went to high. Fordson Major desiel w/loader, rough, poor to fair tires, covered in grease/oil, $2100. An International 574 gas w/loader, good runner, poor tires, fair amount of oil/grease on it, $4800 and a JD-B, elect start, looked straight, had been cleaned up, weak paint but most was there, $1000. Kinda wish I bid on the JD in hin sight. Although they couldn't get it running at the time the fella that bought it had it runnin in about 10-15 mins and she ran great. Not a bit of smoke, good rythem under load. I went to the auction with the intent to buy the baler, Ford 250, as a parts baler for mine. Was willing to go $200 just to get a set of needles, pair of kinfes, and some knoter parts. In all I spent $258 and feel I did real good. Got the baler home and just for grins hooked it up and re-baled a few grass bales. I was suprised to see it worked perfectly even though it had old twine and been settin for years. May just be running two balers next year.

Good for you!
It ain't always that a guy can do that. It only takes one other person to raise the Price. I remember going to an auction in the late 70's that had an 18'(I think) 3 point field cultivator. The owner bought it, but retired b4 he ever put shanks on it. I called local dealer and a brand new one was $2500.00 with shovels, and delivered. I just knew that I'd get it 'cuse
We had a blizzard the day b4, it was 10 below zero and the wind was howling. There was less than 20 of us fools there, but 2 other guys came for the same cultivator. They must not have checked prices b4 they left and one guy bought it for $2450.00. That was the last below zero sale I ever went to! My hats off to you! Larry

On the comment of "all it take is another bidder" please keep in mine that there is "always" another bidder. You and the Auctioneer.
