Ferguson MF PTO Driven Rake Questions

I am to understand that there were several Ferguson hay rakes and later Massey Ferguson hay rakes that were 3 point mounted and PTO driven. How similar are these? I ask because I know a guy that has a Ferguson rake (I haven't seen it) for sale that is 3 pt mounted and PTO driven. My concern is parts. I don't know the rake's model number, but it would have to be about 50 years old. The guy claims it is in great shape. I know that some MF rakes (models 20 & 25) were 3 pt mounted and PTO driven. Were these MF rakes simply rebadged and painted red Ferguson designs? How much would an old Ferguson rake bring?

Lastly, I have ground speed PTO in addition to engine PTO on my MF50, but have another tractor that has only engine PTO. I assume these rakes are only good for ground speed PTO?

Any other insite on these rakes would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Bill

I've been around the 25 for several years. The problem is the bar bearings each are different and I haven't found a cross-over yet. BCA bearing and it'll be $55-60 for each end. I won;t have anoything except 3-pt. so I think we're headed to the New Holland 57 model. Those bearings are $22.

When those rakes were desinged they did not have ground speed pto, that came years later, you bought different size pullys and belts for different model tractors and the gears you wanted to use for raking, if the ground was rough you needed to use a lower gear while if smoth without a lot of sharp turns a higher gear, neighbor had on and 9N ford, high (3rd) was purfect, TO 30, (3rd) to slow and (4th) to fast, if he would have bought the other pullys would have made work on TO 30 corectly

I bought a #25 this summer and gave $300 in southern Illinois. The rake had a broken bar that had been scabbed together with channel iron and it has the rubber mount teeth. When I was loading I realized the tail wheels didn't pivot. These were a bear to get unfrozen, tried heat and penetrating oil and finally heat and a 2lb hammer and kept tapping lightly until all the rust fell out. I rebuilt the pto housing and the bronze bushing was @$25.00. One of the bar end bearings was bad, it was $65.00. I took all of them apart and put a grease fitting on the back side to lube them. Mine has a pto pulley that measures @8" and the big pulley is @22". I have this on a Allis WD and I have to almost run the tractor at idle because it spins way too fast. Someone told me it was made to run on a ground pto? I didnt have a clue what they were talking about. How can I convert to use on a 540 pto?? I thought about getting a 4" pulley made for the pto. Any ideas. Thanks Kent

I've got both a Ferguson DEO 20 and a DEO 25 rakes. As Jim said, they're similar but not exact. The 20 is much lighter framed and narrower, and few of the parts are interchangeable between the two models.

I like them ok, they're build solid. Around here they run about $300-400 unless it is the middle of haying season when they go higher. Partts are available, but sometimes you have to "convince" your MF dealer that he can get them.

yes, rakes are only good for groundspeed UNLESS you put a special gear-reduction outfit on the PTO of the non-groundspeed tractor. MF 20 manual shows pics, tells details. Sorry, I dont have any way of scanning them in here.

I have a Ferguson D-EO-25 pto 3 point rake. The D-EO-20 is very similar but not as wide. I paid $175 for mine at an auction. I had to put about $100 into building a new driveshaft for it.

I have owned a MF 36 rake (ground drive, pull behind) and many parts were interchangeable between the two (teeth, basket ribs for sure and maybe the end wheels, bars, bearings, etc). I've been able to buy new teeth and clamps at the MF dealer. He can't always find them by looking up a Ferguson DEO-25, but if I tell him to look up a MF 25 or MF36 I know the parts will work.
