What is this part called on JD FBB drill??

On my FBB, the cast iron part of the opener that runs in the dirt beside the disk has broken on 4 of them. It has single disk openers. I would like to find four or 6 of these cast iron boots or whatever they are called to fix it but don't know what to call them. Other than that the drill works pretty good. 2 of these cast iron parts have broken off at the top and 2 of them have the scrapers broken off of them. Without the scrapers they plug quickly with stalks.

Way too many variations of the boot to give you all the part numbers here. I bought a JD Parts Catalog through JD for a very reasonalbe price.

I had a couple broken off on a drill we picked up. Ground off the broken edges to form a "V" where the pieces went together, and welded them with a wire welder. They've held OK so far. Am going to make a couple of scrapers out of scrap metal and weld them on where they are missing before next season.

You're right - Boot. They come in both left & right hand as well as long, short, and wait for it - "semi-deep"!!. I have JD Part #'s if you need them. HTH.

thanks soo much. any idea on how to tell if I have a long, short, or semi deep? Will they have the numbers cast into them? My equipment is 50 miles away so I can't go out and look.

Not a clue! I run a B-A drill with double disk openers. The only reason I knew about your drill is all styles of JD end wheel drills are in the same manual and parts catlog. I also discovered there's two types of boots in your case, hard iron & anti - friction bearings just to confuse the issue even more! Just a guess but there's a good chance they have casting #'s - a lot of JD parts do. If you get the number, I could cross-reference it with the parts catalog. HTH.

They do indeed have casting numbers. You can use the later style boot on your drill, but you have to use a disk that has the right bearing in it.
