I know that they made some real lemons, but I can't remember which ones. I thought that the 282, 284's were not so good and the 276's were pretty good...can anyone point me in the right direction???

Thank you guys for all of your great comments! I used to work in a New Holland dealership about ten years ago as a parts man. Maybe my opinions stem more from my knowledge and experience of parts availability and cost. I personally grew up with John Deere equipment, so some of the functionality of New Holland's is foreign to me.

Steve: Like the others I never heard of any New Holland baler being a lemon. Some may have been better than others, but then those were light years ahead of anything else on market. I farmed with a lot of NH equipment and the only real bad item I ever had was a 7 foot mower. I lived in an area where New Holland was king in everything they built. Didn't matter what color the tractor was the hay, forage or manure equipment was NH. Again amoung my neighbors the only complaints I ever heard was on 7 foot mowers.

No lemons to my knowledg. Not sure of number, but, some had wood slides on plungr. Not as good as rollers. Hard to adjust the knives up close. Still good if not wore out. The feeder teeth ran different on some. Again, OK, if in good shape. Thought this might give you some thing to look for if you are buying one.

I don't know of any real lemmons in the line. I have owned and worked on 280, 282, 283, 285 (never heard of a 284) 286. These are all 16X18 balers. Believe the 276 is a 14X16 size baler. The 283 and up were faster balers, more strokes per minute and heavier. 285 and 286 heavier yet and made for higher capacity. Not many of the smaller balers like 276, 273, 268 in our area but believe the 27 series were faster, more strokes per minute, like 283.
